If I want to learn about a character who is not currently in vogue (i.e., anyone who does not appear in the tide of recent Marvel and DC films), there are not many resources that provide both overarching explanations of that character as well as information about where to find comics in which that character appears. I also go to those friends when I’m thinking about a new research project and don’t know where to start. I often look to my comics-savvy friends to fill in background information on characters or story lines when I’m puzzled (Who died in what event and why are they alive again?) or curious (Who created this character and what other books did that person work on?).
